Losing A Pet is Hard
Losing a pet is hard.
We said goodbye to our family dog this year.
His name was Kirby
Or the kirbs, Kirby’s wurbzy, kirburrito Captain Kirby,
He was our little buddy
We adopted kirby when I was 7 years old. We were best friends. We did everything together. playing, napping, working, biking, errands
Kirby was there for every birthday, every achievement, every broken bone, every heartbreak.
All pets want is to love and be loved.
He was the only constant for us kids when my parents divorced.
He helped me get through the darkest depressions and the toughest days.
He always knew when to give extra love.
Everytime we cried he would be there with a paw on your arm and a deep longing look into your eyes.
He was there for every departure, and every return.
You don’t realize the impact of their presence until it’s gone.
Until you walk in the door and there no wagging tail and happy dance to greet you.
Until you wake in the morning and there’s silence where you used to hear the tip tap of paws on the floor
Until you can’t bring yourself to clean his dirty paw prints off your car seat.
I could never imagine a life without him. And now I’m living it.
Some people will say “that’s life. He was old. He’s just a dog.”
But we didn’t just lose a dog. We lost a member of our family. And I’ll never get “over it”
This dog saved my life. And while I held his paw as he took his last breath, I wished that I could save his.
Thank you Kirby. I’m forever grateful I got 16 years with the sweetest soul as my best bud.
