Answering The Question: What Do You Write about?
As a writer, I have found one of the hardest questions to answer is:
“What do you write about?” or “What kind of books do you want to write?”
Now, you may think this would be the easiest. It’s pretty straightforward, right? How would you not know what you’re writing about?
Well, it’s not easy. It’s not easy for the very fact that when people ask this question, I know my response is going to get an immediate evaluation.
It’s not that I don’t know what I write or what kind of writing I want to do in the future, it’s that I don’t know how to explain it. Being that I write a lot about myself, my experiences, and lessons I’ve learned, I fear the look I may see on people’s faces. I fear I’ll get the negative response I sometimes have…
Wow, you really think you’re that special?
So you think you know it all kid? You’re too young.
Why do you think people would care what you have to say?
Good luck making it as a writer.
But you know what I’ve also heard?
Wow, that’s so cool!
What you just wrote really resonated with me. Thank you.
I just shared your writing on my social media.
I’ll be the first to buy your books.

Everyone has an opinion. When you put your creative works out there, they really have an opinion. And because it’s something I dedicate my time and whole heart into, it f*cking hurts when someone implies it’s stupid. But with that same magnitude, it is absolutely warming when my writing did exactly what it was supposed to do—speak to someone. It literally makes me giddy.
I’m just a baby in the writer’s world, but I do believe I have a lot of important things to say, and whether or not people are there to read them, I’m going to write them.
Down the line, the goal is to write novels, various other works, and to expand this brand beyond writing. But for now, as a baby adult with a baby brand, I’m writing little articles for my little blog.
If you like what I have to say, stick around! If you don’t, just keep scrolling by. Though, I actually kind of encourage you to stick around too– and it’s not because I want a bigger following. I say this because, a lot of times, it’s the things we don’t want to hear that are the things we need most.
Now, I’m just going to lay it out there: I’m a liberal. I’m opinionated. I’m introspective.
However, in most cases, I’m open to hearing other people’s opinions as long as they give me that respect in return. We don’t have to agree on everything. We do not change each other’s minds through argument or attack but through conversation and seeking understanding.
At the end of the day, what I write is what I think, and that’s all it is. You can think I’m dead wrong and that is O.K. I’m here to share my heart—which I wear on my sleeve. Or, on my cheek rather, a reference to my pink birthmark which many have said resembles a heart. (psst… can you see it in my logo? 😉 ) I know that in doing this I may get my heart broken from time to time, but I also know that when I share like this, my heart glows.
Welcome to my head—strap in. It’s wild up there.
